From Helen and Kingsley: My Nana was my friend. We used to talk and talk. When I was a little girl I would sit in the armchair with her and she would make up long rambling stories about fairies and I would help. We wouldsit next to each other in the same chair because we were both small. As I got older she helped me in other ways, she sewed costumes for my festivals and encouraged me with gifts if I did well in my exams. As an adult, sometimes I would ring her to find out how to cook certain foods, but always we would talk a lot. Nana had funny little phrases for things, we always say when we are washing up the roasting dish "let the water do the work" even my children say this now. And she was very modern even when she was old, she watched the news and was interested in our lives. When I told Kingsley that Nana had woken up an angel, he said, "Great Nana will be a good angel because she was always happy and kind." Kingsley said, "It is OK that Nana has gone to heaven because now she can stroke Sooty Cat and talk to Great Grandad again". Nana was very important and truly loved.

Jenny’s daughter Megan… My fondest memories of Nana are being together as a family and talking and laughing. She would like to sit and watch the boys and I play, whilst she sat and chatted to the adults. She also liked to talk to me about school and friends and was always very interested in what I was doing. I will miss her lots.

Jenny wrote…. Nana always made the best roast dinners. I remember going over to their house on a Sunday to see her and Grandad and always looked forward to roast dinner. She also made some very good cakes! Nana was very good at making up stories to tell me. I clearly remember as a child sitting on her knee and listening to her tell me such stories. I have great memories of the walks in the woods, which we loved as children, as there was a park at the end of the walk. I also remember walking to the top of their road to feed the ducks occasionally when we stayed there. Nana used to take us round to see her friends when we stayed there, and I distinctly remember her friends always having the best biscuits! Lastly, I remember our trips to Southend on Sea to see Nana's family and eating fish and chips on the promenade with her and Grandad.

Angela and Malcolm: “Mum was kind, gentle, generous , fiercely independent, sometimes stubborn but always supportive of all the family. Friends have commented over the years about how wise and philosophical she was and how well she understood human nature.” Audrey’s grandchildren and great grandchildren all have their own special memories of her and have each sent their own personal messages about their beloved Nana:

From Jay and Damian: Our Nana, Audrey, was an incredibly special lady, who had a huge impact on our lives. She was always there to help, support and advise us, and we will both always be grateful for that. Her passing will leave a huge gap in all of our lives. However, Nana wouldn’t have wanted us to be sad. So here’s a poem that we wrote together to remember her infectious laughter. To Nana from her two Grandsons, Jay and Damian: When my Nana Giggled When my Nanna giggled the room would light up bright. Her face would crinkle up and her eyes would fill with light. ‘Don’t worry!’, she would say, ‘Just deal with today!’ When my Nana giggled, she made it all okay. When my Nanna giggled things just felt right A view on life that was happy and bright When I think of that sound, Joy and laughter abound For Nanna, let’s have giggles all round
